From early feasibility to construction and long-term operations, our solar advisory work spans the full project life cycle. Solar glare analysis is one of the most common reasons developers and permitting authorities reach out to us directly. In Alberta, glare studies are typically required to satisfy Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) Rule 007, and getting the analysis wrong, or leaving it out of an application, can add months to an approval timeline. We prepare glare studies that hold up under regulator and stakeholder scrutiny, using the same modelling approach (PVsyst and HelioScope) we use for the underlying project design, so the glare findings are grounded in the same data as the layout itself.


For community and C&I solar in particular, we help clients navigate a different set of constraints than utility-scale developers face — smaller footprints, more complex ownership and interconnection structures, and a wider range of stakeholders. Our team scopes these projects the same way we’d scope a utility-scale build: site assessment, resource modelling, layout and design, and a clear-eyed look at what it will take to get the project financed and built.

What is solar glare analysis, and when is it required?

Solar glare analysis models the reflected sunlight from a proposed solar array to determine whether it will create a hazard for nearby roads, airports, or properties. In Alberta, glare studies are typically required as part of an application under AUC Rule 007. Solas Energy prepares glare analyses using PVsyst and HelioScope modeling, aligned with the same design data used for the rest of the project.

What’s the difference between utility-scale and community solar consulting?

Utility-scale solar projects are typically developed by IPPs or large asset owners and focus on maximizing generation and grid interconnection at scale. Community solar projects are usually smaller, often serve a defined group of subscribers or a specific site, and involve different financing, ownership, and interconnection considerations. Solas Energy supports both, applying the same technical rigor to each.

Does Solas Energy support solar plus energy storage (hybrid) projects?

Yes. We support hybrid solar and energy storage projects, including systems paired on the DC side of the array, and can model multiple technical and financial combinations to help clients determine the right configuration for their site and market.
